Team Introduction
Professor Qiu Xueqing, the leader of the Lignocellulose High-Value Utilization Team, is a Foreign Member of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, an expert enjoying special government allowances from the State Council, and a recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars. He currently serves as the President of Guangdong University of Technology and Vice Chairman of Guangdong Association for Science and Technology.
The team focuses on the high-value utilization of lignocellulosic biomass, systematically conducting research on lignin structure, intra/intermolecular interactions, and composite interface behavior. Based on lignin's unique three-dimensional structure, abundant active functional groups, and natural UV protection and anti-aging properties, the team has created a series of products including lignin-based surfactants, nanocomposite particles, lignin-based polymer materials, lignin-based carbon materials, lignocellulose-derived chemicals, nanocellulose functional materials, and high-quality fuels. These innovations have expanded the applications of lignin, cellulose, and lignocellulosic biomass in fine chemicals, daily chemical products, aviation fuels, biomedical applications, new energy, and new materials, achieving efficient resource utilization of industrial lignin.
In recent years, the team has undertaken over 100 national and provincial research projects, including National Natural Science Foundation integrated/major/key projects, national/Guangdong provincial key R&D programs, Guangdong Provincial Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and Guangdong Provincial Higher Education Basic Research Excellence Centers. The team has published over 600 SCI/EI papers, obtained over 170 authorized patents, and published 2 monographs. Research achievements have won 2 National Second Prizes for Technological Invention, the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress, 9 provincial and ministerial science and technology awards including the First Prize of China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation, 4 China Patent Excellence Awards, 2 Guangdong Patent Gold Awards, the Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Award, and the Min Enze Outstanding Contribution Award for Energy and Chemical Engineering.

Our research group is part of Professor Qiu Xueqing's team, focusing on bio and biomimetic catalysis research, committed to promoting efficient conversion and high-value utilization of biomass resources. We uphold the philosophy of "Investigation of Things to Extend Knowledge, Pursuit of Excellence", cultivating high-level research talents with innovative spirit and international vision, contributing to carbon neutrality goals and sustainable development.
